Yes mail was lost, or no mail was not lost. I'm not sure that you can get that simple an answer. It isn't hard to imagine ways in which an email could be sent from computer A, received by computer B, acknowledged as received, and yet lost by a failure to write to the actual physical medium before a power loss.
